Winter can get cold in Delmarva, and some people deal with it better than others. While keeping warm in the winter doesn’t seem like an issue when you can technically turn up the heat, you may have found yourself in situations that your body still feels a chill. You also can’t turn up the heat when you’re walking outside.

Here are three suggestions for keeping warm in the winter that you shouldn’t overlook.

Wear Layers

Clothing may be the most primal solution to keep warm. It protects your skin from the wind and puts a layer between you and the cold. But what you may not have known is the added effect of multiple layers. By adding another layer to your attire, you create another pocket to stop the cold before it reaches your body.

Next time you feel the chill, grab another sweater.

Warm Drinks

There’s a reason why seeing a picture of someone sipping from a steaming cup of hot chocolate next to frosted windows makes you feel warm inside. Drinking warm drinks in the winter aren’t just enjoyable, they also heat up your body.

Which will it be for you? your favorite tea? cocoa? coffee?

Exercise

Similar to a machine, when you get your body moving, it heats up. If you’ve been in the same position for a long time, chances are your body won’t be producing that much heat. To get it to produce more, move it more.

A word of caution, if you do heavy exercise or build up a sweat, while your body will heat up, it may also be more at risk of catching a cold. You also don’t want to substitute your being cold for the flu. So make sure not to go outdoors or expose yourself to the wind before drying up.
